In the summer of 2016 the DAAD Cairo Office has called for an information visit specially designed for Egyptian scientists who are affiliated either by teaching or research to an Egyptian university or are employed by the Grand Egyptian Museum, Egyptian Museum, Coptic Museum, Islamic Museum or National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, Nubian Museum and Luxor Museum. The notable high demand for the initiation of partnerships with German expertise mainly in the field of museology has driven the DAAD Cairo office to plan and organize this one-week study trip with the help of the DAAD headquarters.

After a very intense selection process with the help of an independent selection committee followed by an intercultural preparation within the context of the DAAD Kairo Akademie, the selected scientific members of the delegation were ready to explore their chances in the initiation and intensification of academic relations between Egyptian and German universities and institutions.

Between 27th of November and 4th of December 2016 the delegation was touring Berlin, Hannover, Hildesheim, Mainz, Mannheim and Munich visiting a number of Germany’s world-known museums and meeting with representatives of DAAD, German Archeological Institute (DAI), Egyptian Cultural Bureau in Berlin, as well as renown scientists in the fields of Egyptology, Archaeology and museology from all over Germany.

One of the highlights of the trip was the DAAD alumni lounge on the role of international as academic cooperation for the prevention of culture which has been moderated by Prof. Margret Wintermantel, DAAD President. The lounge was hosting Prof. Dr. Stephan Weber, the Director of the Museum of Islamic Art in Berlin and Prof. Dr. Tarek Tawfik, the Director General of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza and an esteemed member of the delegation trip.
