A network meeting organized by DAAD Cairo Office was held for its project partners within the “Higher Education Dialog Programme” during the stay of the HafenCity University student delegation headed by Prof. Dr. Dickhaut,  Prof. Dr. jur. Martin Wickel and Dipl.-Ing. Sonja Schlipf.

Resource efficiency is of high importance in the MENA region; therefore, the DAAD with this evening provided a platform for exchange of knowledge between the seven current DAAD-supported projects dealing with resource efficient urban planning and climate change:

One of the successful examples is the cooperation between TU München and Ain Shams University, which are working on sustainable, integrative urban planning in the “Ezbet Project” another project “Resource efficient Building Construction” where they focus on reintroducing timber and other renewable materials in the building sector in Egypt.

Another project between TU Berlin and Helwan University called “Real City Lab” for teaching architecture with more practice orientation while FU Berlin and Cairo University examine sustainable and climate change oriented urban planning in their project “Urban Climate Lab”.

Further in the list of DAAD projects TU Berlin offers the MSc “Urban Development” in El Gouna, Ain Shams and Stuttgart University offer the “IUSD Master” (Integrated Urbanism and Sustainable Design) and Ain shams and TH Köln are in the process of developing an “Interdisciplinary Master on Resource Efficient Cities (IMaREC)”.

The network meeting included 3 informative presentations held by different funded projects with the focus of the importance of each project, its aims and development and were followed by a panel discussion moderated by Prof. Dr. Sahar Attia, head of the architecture department at Cairo University as well as an intense question and answer round for students and guests.
