Falling Walls Lab 2017

Falling Walls Lab Egypt calls for talented researchers and professionals to showcase their most innovative ideas.

Outstanding researchers, entrepreneurs and professionals can as of now apply for the Falling Walls Lab Egypt on 19 July 2017 to present their research work in 3 minutes. Applications are due by 8 June 2017.

In 2017, international Falling Walls Labs take place all over the world and call for the application of Bachelor and Master students, postdocs, young professionals, entrepreneurs and junior professors. Ground-breaking research projects, initiatives, ideas and business models from all disciplines are welcome.

The winner of every international Falling Walls Lab will be awarded a slot for the Falling Walls Lab Finale in Berlin on 8 November 2017 and a ticket to the Falling Walls Conference on 9 November 2017. In total 100 applicants qualify for the final in Berlin. Each finalist will receive the opportunity to present their research work, initiative or business model within three minutes in front of a high-calibre jury from academia, research and business. The three winners receive a cash prize and give their talks again on the grand stage of the Falling Walls Conference on the next day.

The aim of the Falling Walls Lab is to foster scientific and entrepreneurial innovations and to promote the exchange between outstanding scholars and professionals emerging from different fields of expertise.

Especially the Falling Walls Lab in Egypt has been the Lab with the highest number of applications worldwide. Due to that this year’s Lab shall be expanded to regions outside Cairo to enable a greater visibility of great ideas and a better access for everyone who wants to apply.

The Falling Walls Lab Egypt takes place on 19 July 2017. Applications can be submitted online until 8 June 2017. The Falling Walls Lab Egypt is hosted by DAAD Cairo Office and supported by the Falling Walls Foundation and our local partners TIEC, GESR of Misr El Kheir Foundation and the German Embassy in Cairo. The Falling Walls Lab Egypt is part of the DAAD’s Research in Germany Campaign and funded through the Federal Foreign Office.

Application Procedure

The application procedure includes two steps:

  1. Applications are made centrally on the Falling Walls Website: falling-walls.com/apply.
  2. Application videos of max. 3 minutes presenting the idea or project, and showcasing the ability to present in English, are sent to falling-walls@daadcairo.org.

About the Falling Walls Foundation

The Falling Walls Foundation is a non-profit organisation that fosters the discussion on research and innovation and promotes the latest scientific findings among a broad audience from all parts of society. It organises the Falling Walls Conference, an annual global gathering of forward-thinking individuals from over 75 countries. Each year on 9 November, 20 of the world’s leading scientists present their current breakthrough research in 15 minutes each.
