In the month of July, the DAAD Kairo Akademie DKA organized two special modules concerned with Higher Education.

On July 15 the workshop “Change Management in Higher Education” was conducted by Dr. Marc Milling Managing/ Consultant Admin Excellence Consulting, Senior Consultant Wassermann AG, Munich, Head of Department of economics at the University of Education Schwaebisch Gmuend and Mr. Christoph Penzhorn/ Management Consultant Integrated Management Consulting GmbH (Robert Bosch Automotive Steering). The workshop focused on possibilities and approaches of Change Management in the context of higher education organizations.

On 16 July Dr. Marc Milling delivered the module “Strategic Planning and Management for Higher Education Institutions – Introduction of the Balanced Scorecard”. This module tackled the meaning of a holistic understanding of strategy and strategy development in the context of Higher Education Institutions. The Balanced Scorecard (BSC) as a management tool, which helps to build up and to realize a customized strategy was introduced.

Approx. 60 postdocs and professors affiliated to 25 different Egyptian universities and research institutes attended these workshops. These academics and researchers were from universities in the Delta like Alexandria Banha, Tanta,Mansoura, Zagazig and Kafrelsheich. In addition to Cairo university, professors from Helwan, Ain Shams and Al Azhar were present alongside with researchers from the NRC, ARC, NODCAR and the National Water Research Center. Academics from Fayoum Assiut and El Minia as well as private universities like the GUC, Ahram Canadian University and Misr International University benefited from the workshops too.

Since its establishment in 2011, the DKA has been supporting Egyptian universities and research institutions in the field of capacity building and in strengthening international cooperation offering further training opportunities ranging from proposal writing, and academic skills to management and teaching in higher education institutions.
