In the framework of the DAAD Kairo Akademie (DKA), the DAAD Regional Office Cairo organized two special modules on 21st and 22nd of July 2019 on the topic “Studies-related German Language Courses and Technical Language: Concepts and methods”.

Both modules were offered by a German-Egyptian trainer team: Prof. Dr. Christian Krekeler, Professor for German as a Foreign and Technical Language at the University of Applied Sciences Konstanz and Prof. Dr. Tarik Bary, Professor for Terminology and Translation at the Ain Shams University Cairo, gave the participants new insights and suggestions for German language classes in the context of STEM-disciplines.

The main topics of the workshops included methodological principles and didactics in the field of teaching German as a technical language. Special attention was paid to the subjects economics, engineering and medicine, as there is a high demand for study-related German language classes especially in these contexts.

The workshops also included practical training and the participants were able to discuss questions about teaching methods as well as to do practical exercises related to teaching German as a foreign and technical language.
