The DAAD Regional Office Cairo invites you to attend the Public Lecture “In-between Cities” in the framework of its project “Clusters for Scientific Innovation in the Middle East and North Africa” (COSIMENA).

Key information about the event

Date: Wednesday, May 25th , 2022

Time: 5:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Location: Premises of the DAAD Regional Office Cairo

The focus for sustainable urban development is often on big cities. Without a doubt, they play a major role in meeting the challenge of the climate crisis. Their development is closely linked to the transformation of rural areas, which are also undergoing massive changes. Between these two poles lie the intermediate spaces, peri-urban settlement areas on the fringes of fast-growing metropolises or small and medium-sized towns on the edge of metropolitan areas. Using two completely different regions – Vietnam and Germany – the development issues and challenges of these in-between cities will be debated in the lecture. What role do they play in sustainable urbanisation and what are the tasks for shaping their future? Are there overarching patterns and strategies and can these be transferred?
