More than 60 specialists in German Studies from all over Egypt and Sudan followed an invitation by the DAAD Cairo Office to discuss the latest developments, challenges and changes within the field of German Studies.
During a two-days scientific conference on 30 November and 1 December 2016 the participants exchanged their views and knowledge on a wide variety of topics in workshops, presentations and panel discussions. Of particular importance was the active involvement of a large number of young academics who were addressed as the meeting’s main target group. Among the various fruitful discussions, potential solutions to the specific regional challenges for contemporary German Language Studies in the region turned out to be of prime importance.
Further highlights of the conference were an informative evening event at the DAAD premise in Zamalek with experts discussing contemporary images of Germany under the motto Vermittlung eines modernen Deutschlandbildes in der akademischen Lehre and a visit to the recently opened new library of the Goethe Institute in Cairo-Dokki.
