In July 2017 the DAAD Cairo Office launched the Health Cluster with its first Health Cluster Conference. Throughout the entire year COSIMENA organised various events such as two Public Health Courses in Sudan and Egypt, two events raising awareness of noncommunicable diseases and an Expert Session on German-Egyptian Research Cooperation.

Theranostics in Nuclear Medicine
On Thursday, November 9th, 2023, the DAAD Regional Office Cairo organised within the framework of the DAAD project “Clusters of Scientific Innovation in the Middle East and North Africa” (COSIMENA) a public lecture entitled "Theranostics in Nuclear Medicine". in the context of the “Health Cluster” the event entailed aspiring researchers and scientists working in the medical and health field and offered them the opportunity to exchange their knowledge about Nuclear Medicine.
Metabolic Syndrome: A Public Health Challenge in Egypt and Germany
On Sunday, May 7th, 2023, the DAAD Regional Office Cairo organised a panel discussion entitled “Metabolic Syndrome: A Public Health Challenge in Egypt and Germany”. The event is a collaboration between the DAAD project “Clusters of Scientific Innovation in the Middle East and North Africa” (COSIMENA) and Freie Universität Berlin (FU-Berlin) and took place at the DAAD Regional Office Cairo.
Current Trends in Neurosurgery: Innovative Approaches and the Role of Artificial Intelligence
On Friday, January 21st 2022, the DAAD Regional Office Cairo held an Expert Session on "Current Trends in Neurosurgery: Innovative Approaches and the Role of Artificial Intelligence" in the framework of its lighthouse project "Clusters of Scientific Innovation in the Middle East and North Africa" (COSIMENA).
Health Measures in Germany and the MENA Region during the COVID-19 Pandemic
Within the scope of COSIMENA, the event intended to provide an insightful analysis of the different approaches of medical systems in Germany and the MENA Region in dealing with COVID-19.
On 17 July 2018, public health experts and scientists from Egypt, Germany and Sudan gathered in the DAAD Cairo Office for a session on virology, where they gave an overview of the epidemiological situation of infectious diseases and outbreaks in the MENA region.
From 25–26 June 2018 COSIMENA invited medical professionals as well as students in the medical and social sciences to participate in a workshop on medical anthropology.
The COSIMENA Health Cluster supported the conference “Genetic and Metabolic Basis of Pediatric Cardiac Diseases: ‘The New Era’” which took place from 12–13 April 2018 in Cairo.
The COSIMENA Health Cluster supported the facilitation of the First Egyptian-German Workshop on Laser in Laryngology, which was held at the National Institute of Laser Enhanced Sciences at Cairo University from 13–14 January 2018.
Decision-Making in Public Health: Evidence, Politics
In collaboration with the Institute of Public Health of the Universität Heidelberg, the COSIMENA Health Cluster hosted the four-day training course “Decision-Making in Public Health: Evidence, Politics” at the premises of the DAAD Cairo Office from 10–13 December 2017.
Two days dedicated to noncommunicable diseases in the MENA region
In collaboration with NCDFREE, the DAAD Cairo Office hosted two events on 18 and 19 November 2017 raising awareness of noncommunicable diseases in the MENA region among junior and senior scientists and researchers.
The COSIMENA Health Cluster, in collaboration with the Institute of Public Health, University of Heidelberg and the Public Health Institute of Sudan, organised a course focusing on “Decision Making in Public Health” from 13–17 July 2017 in Khartoum.
From 9–10 July 2017, the DAAD Cairo Office hosted its first COSIMENA Health Cluster Conference. Experts from, Tunisia, Sudan, Egypt and Germany came together to discuss existing and possible future cooperation within the region and with Germany.
